Brief Description: The Craven Family Papers include materials associated with the E.F. Craven Company as well as Craven Family materials. The E.F. Craven Company, which sold road building equipment, was established about 1900 by Eli Franklin Craven (1875-1964). The materials in the collection were donated by his son, Franklin Duval Craven (1906-1993).
Materials include: a Southern Railway ticket (1911); War Bonds stamps (1942); a large collection of invoices and receipts from various Greensboro businesses and institutions (ca. 1900-1930), including Odell Hardware (1903), Wesley Long Hospital (1929), the Greensboro News (1917), the Benbow Hotel (ca. 1910), and the Greensboro Patriot (1908); the Greensboro High School newspaper High Life (1923-54); letterheads for the E.F. Craven Company (ca. 1905-20); manuscript, “History of the Gate City,” probably a juvenile production (ca. 1920); Greensboro public schools grade reports (1914-25); a program for the Greensboro High School commencement exercises (1925); a program for the 55th Kentucky Derby (1929); the newspaper, Greensboro Daily News, Jr. (1920); the newsletter, Road Machinery News (1922-39); Craven family correspondence (ca. 1920-30); The Lindley Scratch Pad, a newsletter of Lindley Elementary School (1945); a ticket and invitation for the Eastern Music Festival (1969); photos of a Greensboro snowstorm (1927); programs for various performances sponsored by the Greensboro Civic Music Association and the North Carolina College for Women (ca. 1940-50); E.F. Craven Company catalogs (1926-35); account book for the Bank of South Greensboro (1911-12); The Reflector, the Greensboro High School annual (1925); and the diary of Franklin Duval Craven (1924).
