Brief Description: This collection consists of materials donated by Mr. & Mrs. Raymond W. Harris of Elkin, NC. It includes such varied materials as children’s literature, guidebooks to the Columbian Exposition and pamphlets on home design and construction.
Materials include: “vest-pocket maps” of North and South Carolina (ca. 1925); a V-E Day map (ca. 1945); dress-making patterns (ca. 1900-50); pamphlets related to home design and construction (ca. 1920-30); guide and souvenir books for the Columbian (1893) and Jamestown (1907) Expositions; a pamphlet entitled North Carolina Sanatorium and the Lewis Training School for the Treatment of Tuberculosis (ca. 1925); various pamphlets with illustrated children’s stories (e.g., Radio Orphan Annie’s Book About Dogs, ca. 1930); and Dr. Miles’ Joke Book (ca. 1930).
