INTRODUCTION

This collection consists of Private Ham Kible’s parole, issued in Greensboro on May 5, 1865, and a Confederate broadside containing several documents relating to the end of the war.

Provenance: These two items were acquired from Barry Smith and assigned accession numbers 1983.63.1 A&B.

Processing: This collection was processed by Karen C. Carroll, and the finding aid was completed in September 1983.


BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Private Ham Kible served in Company “A” of the 3rd South Carolina regiment and was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, on May 5, 1865.


SCOPE & CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of Kible’s parole from Greensboro on May 5, 1865, and a broadside containing Lee’s General Orders #9 (April 10, 1865), the agreement between Sherman and Johnston (April 27, 1865) and Johnston’s General Order #18 (April 27, 1865). These items are in fair to poor condition, with several creases and tape and water stains. Both have been encapsulated.
