INTRODUCTION

This collection consists of two letters written to lumber dealer A. Vickrey of Jamestown, NC. One letter is accompanied by an original company cover.

Provenance: These two items were donated by W.J. Moore in 1979 and assigned accession numbers 1979.118.6-7.

Processing: This collection was processed by Karen C. Carroll, and the finding aid was completed in September 1983.


BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

A. Vickrey was apparently a lumber dealer in the Jamestown area in 1862.


SCOPE & CONTENT NOTE

One letter is dated February 28, 1862, and to Vickrey from “William and Alfred Reding,” It concerns filling a lumber order apparently for building construction, as hip and valley rafting is mentioned. The other letter with cover is addressed to Vickrey, dated July 16, 1862, and is an order for carriage wheels.
